Course in Homeopathy — South Africa

This 3-year course offered by HPTG in South Africa, is based on the highly acclaimed course that has been running in England since 1991 and which has already been successfully exported to Australia and Ireland. The South African course offers to you the combined experience and knowledge of a teaching team whose members have in excess of 150 years of homeopathic practice between them! The emphasis will be on materia medica, clinical indications, and practical case management - some philosophy will be included.

The Homeopathic Professionals Teaching Group (HPTG) first developed a three year modular course in 1991 to inspire and awaken students to the potential for the profound and lasting changes that homeopathy can initiate. The course gradually integrated medical and veterinary teaching and many sessions are now led by a medical doctor and a veterinarian. The class separates into the respective professional groups where needs differ significantly. The combined approach has been highly successful and all participants benefit from experiencing a different view of the subject.

The founders of HPTG were heavily influenced by the teachings on classical homeopathy by George Vithoulkas but it is HPTG policy to expose delegates to as much of modern day homeopathic philosophy as possible. Delegates at present are introduced to, and encouraged to study, the work of new thinkers such as Jan Scholten and Rajan Sankaran. We consider that these approaches are equally relevant to veterinary and medical homeopathy. On the other hand, we consider that there is a place in homeopathy for the use of prescribing on a more pathological basis and the course includes tuition on such concepts as isopathy, nosodes, a systems approach to prescribing, and the use of bowel nosodes.

   Course Details

The HPTG International course is made up of two four-day modules taught each year for three years. It is designed to take the delegate through simple prescribing based on clinical indications on to holistic prescribing based on a deep understanding of health and disease and an imaginative interpretation of the Materia medica. The major homeopathic remedies are studied in depth, from more than one viewpoint, and bringing in the understanding of some of the world’s leading homeopaths. HPTG tutors work to bring the materia medica to life using role play and interactive teaching methods. Many of the smaller, less well-known remedies are also taught. Guided homestudy complements the course.

For vets, the HPTG course can be the route to widening their horizons and increasing their job satisfaction by working with their clients in a more healing way. It will provide the knowledge for the use of homeopathy within the General Practice situation and also, if desired, open the way to a more specialist level of work.

For many doctors the course has been a route to re-engage with and move on their clinical practice. Some have integrated homeopathy into their practice after 15 - 20 years in General Practice, others have used the course to effect a full or part-time career change, to develop specialist provision as a GP specialist and/or private homeopathic physician.

Health professionals who have studied on HPTG courses invariably find their understanding of their patients deepens and they finish the course with a more holistic view of the processes which influence health and disease. Furthermore they are equipped to provide their patients with a significantly greater level of care.
